วัดหยวนทง เป็นวัดที่ใหญ่ที่สุดและเก่าแก่ที่สุดของมณฑลยูนนาน ตั้งอยู่ที่ถนนหยวนทงเจียง เป็นอารามทางพระพุทธศาสนาที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในคุนหมิง อายุเก่าแก่กว่าพันปี ภายในวัดตกแต่งร่มรื่นสวยงาม กลางลานมีสระน้ำขนาดใหญ่ มีสะพานข้ามไปสู่ศาลาแปดเหลี่ยมกลางสระ ด้านหลังวัดเป็นอาคารสร้างใหม่ ประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูป พระพุทธชินราช(จำลอง) ซึ่งพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวได้พระราชทาน ให้อัญเชิญไปประดิษฐานไว้ ณ ที่วัดแห่งนี้

วัดชงจ้านหลิง หรือวัดกุ้ยหยวน เป็นวัดลามะที่มีอายุเก่าแก่กว่า 300 ปี มีพระลามะจำพรรษาอยู่มากกว่า 700 รูป สร้างขึ้นโดยทะไลลามะองค์ที่ 5 ในปี พ.ศ. 2222 ใกล้เคียงกับสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาตอนต้น มีรูปแบบคล้ายพระราชวังโปตาลา ณ เมืองหลวงลาซาแห่งทิเบต
วัดชงจ้านหลิง เป็นวัดธิเบต สร้างในสมัยดาไลลามะองค์ที่ 5 ในปี คศ. 1679 ใช้เวลาก่อสร้างนาน 3 ปี แล้วเสร็จในปี คศ. 1681 ชื่อวัดนั้น ได้มาจากพระนามของพระองค์คือ เกอตันชงจ้านหลิง (เกอตัน เป็นสมณศักดิ์ ชงจ้านหลิง เป็นนาม) วัดนี้สร้างโดยจำลองแบบมาจากพระราชวังโปตาลาที่กรุงลาซาแต่มีขนาดเล็กกว่ามาก มีชื่อเรียกอีกอย่างว่า “โบตาลาน้อย” ศาสนาพุทธมหายานนิกายตันตระ
ตัววัดตั้งอยู่บนเนินเขาแห่งท้องทุ่งกว้างทางตอนเหนือของเมืองจงเตี้ยน สามารถมองเห็นตัวเมืองได้ทั้งหมด ภายในมีวิหารใหญ่อยู่ตรงกลาง แวดล้อมด้วยวิหารเล็กแปดทิศอย่างดอกบัว 8 กลีบ มีห้องโถงใหญ่ที่จุพระได้ถึง 1600 รูป เสาขนาดใหญ่ 108 ต้น ผนังทั้งสองด้านเป็นที่เก็บคัมภีร์ มีภาพปันเชนลามะที่ 11 ซึ่งเคยมาปฏิบัติธรรมที่วัดนี้ พระประธานองค์กลางสร้างด้วยทองเหลืองถือว่าเป็นองค์ดาไลลามะซงจ้างหลิง ด้านหน้ามีดวงไฟในถ้วยเล็กๆ เรียงรายอยู่จำนวนมาก ภายในบรรจุเนยจากไขมันวัว หรือเรียกว่า “ซูโหยว” ชาวธิเบตเชื่อว่าแสงสว่างแห่ง “ซูโหยว” จะช่วยส่องแสงสว่างแก่ผู้วายชนสู่สวรรค์ได้ ด้านข้างมีรูปปั้นของเจ้าหญิงเหวินเฉิง พระธิดาของจักรพรรดิ์ถังไถ่จง แห่งราชวงศ์ถัง ผู้เดินทางจากนครฉางอาน เมืองหลวงแห่งราชวงศ์ถังไปอภิเษกสมรสกับกษัตริย์ชงเชน กัมโปแห่งทูฟาน (หรือธิเบต) ที่นครลาซาเมื่อกว่า 1300 ปี อีกด้านเป็นเจดีย์บรรจุอัฐิของอดีตเจ้าอาวาส ผู้ได้รับเลือกเป็นผู้ว่าการแขวงปกครองตี๋ชิงคนแรกเมื่อปี คศ. 1956 ท่านมีนามว่า “พระเคอซื่อ” ถือว่าเป็นบุคคลผู้สร้างคุณปการอันยิ่งใหญ่ เป็นศูนย์รวมทั้งด้านศาสนา และการพัฒนาท้องถิ่นแก่ประชาชนในแคว้นนี้ ด้านในยังมีพระพุทธรูปทองคำขนาดใหญ่อีก 3 องค์
องค์ซ้ายคือ พระจงคาปา เป็นผู้นำในนิกายลามะหมวกเหลือง แห่งธิเบต ซึ่งที่มาของหมวกเหลืองกล่าวกันว่า เมื่อครั้งที่พระจงคาปาท่านออกบวช เพื่อนสนิทของท่านได้นำหมวกสีเหลืองมามอบให้ ท่านจึงสวมใส่ไว้เสมอเวลาสวดมนต์ จึงเป็นต้นกำเนิดเรียกนิกายหมวกเหลือง (เกรุปปะ)
ส่วนองค์กลางคือพระหมีเล่อ เป็นพระที่ยิ้มแย้มแจ่มใส เชื่อกันว่าจะเป็นพระพุทธเจ้าที่จะมาจุติในอนาคตกาล เหมือนคติความเชื่อของชาวจีนฮั่นที่จะปั้นเป็นพระสังขจาย
ส่วนองค์ทางขวาคือองค์ดาไลลามะที่ 7 ที่เล่ากันว่าท่านได้เคยมาศึกษาพระธรรมอยู่ที่นี่ก่อน บนผนังรอบด้านจะประดับด้วย ทังคา หรือภาพเขียนสีบนผืนผ้าใบ เป็นรูปพระโพธิสัตว์ในปางต่าง ๆ อันละเอียดและงดงามมาก ในอดีตวัดนี้มีพระจำพรรษาถึง 700 รูป จึงมีกุฏิจำนวนมาก สังเกตรอบหน้าต่างจะเป็นสีดำ
