Paris 2024 opening ceremony
Ambitious, historic, spectacular: these are the words used to describe the Paris 2024 opening ceremony since the beginnings of the project were unveiled three years ago.
The first Olympic opening ceremony to take place outside a stadium , the July 26 celebration will transform the French capital into a stadium and theater, as the traditional parade of athletes takes place on boats along the Seine, passing Paris' most iconic landmarks.
WHY IS THIS CEREMONY HISTORIC?
At Paris 2024, for the first time in the history of the Summer Olympic Games, the opening ceremony will take place outside a stadium.
Instead of the traditional images of athletes parading on an athletics track , guests and viewers will be able to enjoy a colorful river parade in the heart of the French capital.
The Seine , the city's main river, will replace the usual track and the quays will become the stands for spectators , while the setting sun will reflect on the famous monuments of Paris which will serve as a backdrop to the ceremony.
This open-air concept also makes Paris 2024 the largest opening ceremony in terms of attendance and geographical coverage.
