Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a 2022 adventure comedy film directed by Jeff Fowler from a screenplay by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington based on the video game franchise of the same name published by Sega. It is the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) and the second film in the planned Sonic the Hedgehog film series. The cast includes James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Shemar Moore, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Idris Elba, and Jim Carrey. The film follows Sonic and Tails as they try to prevent Doctor Eggman and Knuckles the Echidna from finding the Master Emerald.

Following the success of the first film, and with plans for a film series, Paramount Pictures announced the sequel in May 2020. Filming took place from March to June 2021 in Vancouver and Hawaii. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on April 8, 2022, by Paramount Pictures in association with Sega Sammy Group. The film was praised for the action sequences, visuals, humor, animated characters, and the cast's performances, although its screenplay, runtime and pacing drew criticism. Many critics considered the film an improvement over its predecessor. It grossed $402.7 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing video game film in the United States and the fourth highest-grossing video game film of all time. A third film is scheduled for a December 20, 2024 release, while a spin-off miniseries starring Knuckles is in development and is scheduled to be released in 2023.
