Lake Baikal, located in the southern part of the eastern Siberia is the oldest and the deepest fresh water lake in the world. This place is mesmerising as it lies in a deep structural hollow enclosed by mountains. It is one of the most favourite Russian tourist places and is called the ‘Pearl of Siberia’. In winters, the lake freezes forming a crystal clear ice sheet, giving an opportunity to sneak a look at the underwater world. The lake has 27 islands, the most famous being the Olkhon Island. After spending the day at the lake, the tourists can relish fresh food from local hawkers.
